put new rotors, calipers, and pads on the front of my 2003 f 250 4x4 scsb assuming the rotors were warped, when braking the whole truck shakes, tires were also changed to 305/70/16 bfg. Has anyone had a similar problem, starting to think maybe the tires are to much, or suspension problem, there are only 49000 miles on this truck. This is only another problem on a long list, one of which is the fly wheel broke off on the highway at 35999.60 miles!
what brand rotors or where did you buy them. I have seen many aftermarket rotors be out of round right out of the box. If the vibration is during braking I would suspect your problem is still in the brakes. Tires will be a constant.
pulled wheels retorqued the lugs going for a ride now.
duralast from auto zone, this is the second set of rotors, though the first were warped, will be getting my $$ back on the first
thanks for your help, will repost when i return
Unsure if I understood, but did you only check/replace the front brakes etc? If you hav'nt already, go over the rears too. I've had a rear caliper hang up just enough to do the same.
Edkajo i will check the rears now
i just returned from my ride, the shake is still there
this is really driving me crazy, want to fix it before i pick up my new boat 350 miles away
I have the same problem with my 2004. I notice two weeks ago while trying to pin point the problem that the sway control arms had broke free from rubber bushings. I had those fixed last week. vibration is still there just not as bad. I also heard on diesel stop that ford was having trouble with the front suspension on the superduty and make a shim kit for the front end. Mine only vibrates going down hills. It was said that the front suspension gets in a bind going down hills when applying the brakes and the shim kit solves the problem. I haven't researched the shim kit solution yet. I have been a little busy and it is not easy leaving your truck at a dealership for a few days and trying to get someone to take you and pick you up 45 minutes away.
Even though you just had the tires balanced it could still be a tire problem. Possibly an out of round tire or a busted belt. I have the same problem and it is for sure a bad tire on my truck. Look at the weights on your tires and see if there is one that has a lot more weights on it than the others. If it is on the front, move it to the back and see if you can tell that the shaking has moved to the back.
Whatfish,
It's not just proper torque on the rotors, but properly tightening the lugs in succession, making sure you are not tightening one or two before taking them all to the same torque as you go.
I can't see this as anything but an improper torqueing prcedure....unless you have bought bad rotors.
Also did you check the caliper pins - did you lube them?
just re torqued front and rear
test drive, vibration still there
went to auto zone to get refund on parts, they didn't have enough money in the draw?
this vibration is only when steady brake pressure is applied, it is more apparent above 30mph
I have tried everything (i think) now what?
I really don't want to bring it to a garage.
could it be the tires are to big for this friday built truck?
Looks like you're gonna have to break down and take it to the shop. Let them check the rotors for run-out, unless you have a dial indicator. Then they can check for thick/thin spots
I don't think that the tires would cause it unless they were heavy-lugged.
