Hey guys, I've been reading the forums for a while but haven't posted until now. I've also tried searching and haven't been able to find what I'm looking for, so If you search and find it my mistake please point me to the thread. Alright, my dad bought a 94 XL about 6 years ago from his former work. It now belongs to me. When he bought it he was told by the company that they had installed a heavy duty automatic tranny due to the fact that it would be hauling large loads of parts and tools. My question is where can I look on the tranny to find out which one it is. Like I said it is an automatic, and has the ford logo stamped on it so it seems to be an OEM ford tranny. If you guys could just point me to the right place to look I would greatly appreciate it.
Well the decal fell off of the door frame but I found it tucked into the owners manual and it does indeed say E. The guy who my dad bought it from told him the tranny was swapped out...maybe he meant swapped with a rebuilt one of the same type, but whatever. Thanks for the help.
hahaha, actually thats exactly why I needed to know what tranny it was. It needs a serious overhaul, seeing as my mom has been driving it for the past year or 2 and aside from hitting almost any type of obstacle she could with the truck, she also tended to neglect basic maintenance such as replacing filters and changing fluids. The trans developed a grinding at around 50-60 mph a year ago and she has been driving with it that way instead of getting it checked. She planned on just selling the truck, but since it is always useful to have a pickup around, I convinced her to let me fix it back up and keep it, so we had something to haul things if we needed to. So now I'm faced with the task of repairing the trans., brakes, minor electrical problems, and perhaps the body/interior if I dont feel like I've spent enough of my money on the numerous performance problems. Basically, im looking at a complete overhaul over the next year or so. Thanks again for the info, I appreciate it.
