The first time I went under the hood of my 70' I was checking the MC fluid level. Being built close to the ground, I keep a small 2 step ladder in the back so I can climb "in" to get to everything. Guess what I hit my head on.....................
With well lubed hinges the hood will drop down, I found that you tighten the hooks on the springs the hood will stay in the fully open position. Blood in my glasses once was enough after the fourth time.

That hood latch is my sworn enemy. I have bashed my head into it at least a hundred times! One year, I even pained it international orange. Now, I attach tie a little string of masking tape to it. My brain (or at least my peripheral vision) seems to react well to this method as I don't hit it anymore. I also wear a hat. I hate that latch.

I have added a pair of lift rods to my hood. Looked around the garage and found a pair of the right length. Hooked the top bracket to the front hinge bolt, and the bottom bracket was attached by drilling a hole in the appropriate spot on top of the inner fender. Now when I lift the hood about 1/3 of the way, it goes up by itself.
