So, I'm driving from Seattle to Butte, MT.......I get about 3/4 of the way there and my truck starts acting really WEIRD. It was almost like it was running out of fuel....it would lose all power and then I'd get it to the side of the road and it would idle really hard for a few seconds, then smooth out...I'd take off again, and about 15 miles later, it would do the same thing. Finallly, about 40 miles outside of Butte, the truck just DIES. There is NO getting this beast started again. At first, I thought maybe the fuel pump?? But I had just had that replaced about 10,000 miles ago. Then I thought that maybe the fuel was gelling up because I got it in Washington and I was now in Montana's -20 degree winter. Anyway, I call a tow truck, and they haul my truck AND trailer into Butte.
Ford dealership says, injector numbers 1, 3, 5 & 7 are bad.....need permission to replace them. Okay, I say....even though I REALLY didn't want to spend $2000 on fixing injectors....no one else in this town works on diesels...or, no one that anyone would tell me about. 4 days go by, Ford calls and says "Truck's done, you can come get her." SWEET! I'm tired of walking everywhere by this time. So, I pick up my truck on Saturday at noon...decided to do a bit of sight-seeing, since the only thing I've really seen of Butte at this point is my hotel room. Speed limits are usually 70 on the roads in and out of town, 75 on the interstate......so I start to head out of town and no sooner do I get to 60mph does my truck start to act up again. It's doing the same exact thing it was before!! So, I take the truck back to Ford....but I have to wait until Monday now because they're closed on Sundays. I finally get a call saying that injectors 2, 4, 6, & 8 are bad too....and THEY need to be replaced. By this time, I'm REALLY annoyed because I JUST spent $2000 to have them fix four injectors that didn't fix the problem in the first place....and they say they won't fix it if I don't pay for the other four because ALL 8 WENT BAD AT THE SAME TIME!
Now, SERIOUSLY, has this EVER happened to anyone else? They couldn't show me Buzz Test results, and they refused to give me the "BAD" injectors because they have to return them to Ford, even though they told me that two of them were completely blown apart.
Opinions??? I just want to see if they scr**ed me over or if this is really a possible scenario....because I REALLY couldn't afford to spend $4000 that week to fix something that may not have needed to be done. One or two injectors I could understand...but ALL OF THEM????
yeah I would say you got a total screw job. How many miles are on your truck now. It sounds to me like they did an injector test and found one bad so replaced the entire bank then wanted you to pay for it again. I would follow up with a call to ford customer service, the BBB, and anyone else that can get on this stealership about this. That is called a come back they said they fixed the problem and it still exists they need to not only fix it again for free but keep fixing it for free until it's actually fixed since they claimed it was fixed the first time. And I would demand the money back for diagnostics the second time since they should have caught that the first time which they obviously didn't and you have a legal right to see the " bad" injectors prior to them sending them back for your own inspection whether they like it or not, and at that time I would find a place that could test them and have them tested then make them eat any that test good in the off truck test and the labor for putting them in. refusal to let you view them would be viewed by a court as hidding something and probably could get you paid back for replacing parts that didn't need replaced.
Sorry to hear about your situation bout I to have been in the same boat thankully under warranty. I had 1-3-5-7 injectors go and replaced and picked up my truck to only have all 4 go bad again 2 hours later. You should have them find out why they went bad instead of replacing the other 4 and having them go south on you as well.
You should definitely have the dealership show you your faulty injectors though. My friends a mechanic and he always preaches to me about geting my old parts back becuase there are some shady businesses out there.
I did ask to have the old injectors....they told me that unless I paid an extra $186 per injector, I couldn't have them because they had to return them to Ford...I was annoyed enough already, I didn't want to have the cops called on me for being beligerent....
If you ask for the injestors back and they have a core charge, then I don't believe that they have to give them to you, which is probably where the $186 per injector came from. What year and model is your truck? I know that under warrenty ford does not allow the replacement of all 8 injectors in one service visit, unless truely all eight are bad and can be proven. Usually one whole bank is replaced, if only injector codes exist for one bank and not both. How much labor did they charge for the job?
apparently, your truck is not warranty, because they charged you for the work. The only way they have to send the old injectors back is if its warranty.Questions to ask---what dtcs were found--did you have to do a balloon test---was wiring chafing found---what was your fuel pressure. Looks to me like someone didnt do enough diagnostics and just replaced parts hoping to accidentally repair it
what year is the truck? i really find it hard to beleive all 8 injectors went bad at once. i mean come the heck on, 8 INJECTORS AT ONCE! i am a hard core 6.0 lover, but if all 8 went out to be true, then another bad mark in my book, its not like these injectors cost 10 dollars each or anything.
It's a 2003....first line of the 6.0L...warranty expired 17,000 miles ago. They charged $800 in labor per bank...so $1600 total, out of the $3700 to fix the truck. I asked them to show me a hard copy of the diagnostics results and they said they didn't have it anymore....and that's what I thought about the cores...that they only had to be sent back if it was under warranty. I think I'm going to be calling Ford about this....just to clarify some stuff...I'll keep you all informed, and thanks!!!!!
Injectors do have a core charge as they are remanufactured, so the dealer would need to return them or the core charge covered by the customer who takes them.
I would have understood that if they hadn't told me that some of them were "blown apart" and in pieces anyway. They wouldn't even give me the ones they couldn't send back. *shrugs* But yes, the truck runs fine NOW....after being "fixed" with 4 new injectors that DIDN'T fix the problem.....and then going back into the shop for the others...l.
I think that any reputable dealer would gladly "show" you any parts that were replaced. They wouldn't have to "give" them to you. Also, I would be a bit suspicious that they could not show you a diagnostic chart or print out. Sounds like you should contact Ford and alert them to the service practices of this dealership. Service after the sell is an important part of ownership.
