I recently bought a project which I thought or was discribed to me as a 1940 1/2 ton. Turns out the front fenders and hood are from a 40. Here is where the questions start. This is an abandent street rod project. The cab has the filler hole for the gas on the passenger side, again not a 40. I have been told that the frame is a 42 but would it have the same number from 42-47. It is even more interesting to find that some knucklehead while boxing the front portion of the frame and installing a crossmember for a Mustang II ground off part of the VIN number. I have be able to bring up 99C643784 which might not be enough digits. I got this far in being able to read this by a combination of sandblasting and wire wheeling used on a die grinder. Which brings up another question. Does anyone know of any chemical that might be used to pull up a VIN that has been welded over? Also since the cab looks like a 40 but isn't how much fabracation will I have to do to make the front group fit? I don't mind the work I just want a 40 or a even 40 clone. Is there much advantage of using a 42-47 frame when it comes street rodding this old truck. And does anyone have any recommendation on whom to by an aftermarket rear leaf spring kit from?
