I just installed the TS performance 6 pos chip on my '02 psd. I had before the banks ottomind chip "power pack". The only time I could get the light to come on then is if I was pulling atleast 8000lbs. Now with the chip set to 140hp I can get it to come on anytime I want. Its great seeing all that smoke!!! Wife really dosent under stand but thats ok. I have all the Banks "Power Pack" stuff the 4" ehaust, gauges and intercooler and turbo upgrades....ect. I was just woundering about keeping the light off so it wont defuel the engine. I know they have boost relife valves and regulator, my question is why cant you just plug the line to the MAP sensor so it cant read the over boost??? I havnt done anything yet, just wondering if anyone else has thought about doing that and saving money for some other goodies for there truck?? I dont want to do something that I would reagreat latter. Tell me if you have some ideas.
Just get a boost regulator, or relief valve like you already mentioned. You can't just plug the line to the MAP sensor - it has to be able to read the boost pressure - and I highly doubt it would run right, if at all, with the line totally plugged!! You just want to keep the sensor from "seeing" over a certain ammount of boost (about 22-23 psi), but you have to keep it operational!
the MAP sensor helps decide how much fuel to send to the injectors, along with other parameters. if this is plugged, i dont think it will run too well, because the ECM will see the truck is still making no boost (basically at idle) and you wouldn't have any more fuel than you would say going along down your road and not making any boost. dump into it, and you won't get any power. it may shut down on you, but i cant say.
That page gives some good info on the MAP sensor, overboost, defueling, etc... even how to tell if the SES light you're seeing is related to the MAP seeing overboost, or not. Might want to give it a read, and see if a boost relief valve is what you need.
Yeah I went ahead and bought the boost regulator this afternoon. I started thinking about what I had said early and came to the same thoughts you guys did, probley be some bad stuff going on if I did that. Thanks for your help everyone and that link too. Thanks.
You might want to make sure that it is the overboost code first. I have a regulator and I get the SES light on occasion. It is that ICP 2111 code. Which means the injectors aren't getting enough oil. I'll just have to get those single shot injectors
