Hey guys, Do you have any ideas on install a system in a 69 f100. I have the original AM radio and dash speaker. It is all crapped out. I need ideas on locations for new cd player and speakers to keep me company. Thanks for any ideas.

I put an MP3 player in mine. It fits and looks good. Unfortunately, in order to get it to fit, I had to mod the hole (cut off the ears). This will offend some and it took me a long time to make the decision. In the end I'm glad I did (I think). I tried the headliner mount and didn't like it. Couldn't figure a good under-dash mount and discounted the inside-the-glovey mount. Good luck. Email me if you want a photo of mine.

Leave the factory radio and bezel. Use a portable MP3 player or CD player, run the line out to an AMP behind the seat (mine is actually mounted in the seat). Install speakers in the doors or kick panels, or put some behind the seat if you have removed the in cab tank.
Both my trucks had the bent radio-mount ears also, so I just installed a new head unit in each one. I have been thinking about mounting two 4" speakers in place of the dash-speaker. They would be next to each other so the seperation wouldn't be great, but it's a way to mount speakers which doesn't require butchering anything in the cab. There's enough room between my head unit and the speaker magnets, but you'd want to check. I currently have a pair of box-speakers (they're a speaker mounted in a black plastic case, and they're supposed to "stand alone"). The PO left them in the truck so I used them until I come up with something better. Right now they slide across the passenger side floor when I go around corners. Kinda sucky. I've also seen people mount speakers in their doors. I was just looking at Chadburns (search the user gallery) gallery. He did a nice job mounting some 6x9s in his door panels, then covered the panels in grey cloth. *sweet* Just some random thoughts.

The AM radio in my '70 was fried except for the power switch. I installed a Pioneer radio in the headliner using a universal underdash mount. I interrupted the power wire with a 12v relay that is switched by the power **** on the old AM radio. Now when I turn on the AM radio, the Pioneer comes on. I replaced the dash speaker with a pair of pioneer 4 in dual cone speakers. Not exactly perfect but they work and you don't know the radio is there from outside the truck.
Hey thanks for the compliment Ohio Bill. The speakers look pretty good in that spot, I didn't have to cut the doors themselves, and they sound o.k., although I will admit I am not a true "Audiophile". I mainly use those speakers for the bass, which is not "directional", so the fact that they point straight into the seat doesn't hurt the sound at all. I have a couple of 4" speakers mounted in the door pillars right behind and above the seat to handle the "highs". I'll try to add a shot of those to my gallery later tonight after I get home from work, so you all can see what I am talking about. With some careful tuning of the balance and fade, you can get a decent sound out of this arrangement. Take care and good luck on your install.
I just put a Pioneer cd player with two 6 1/2" speakers in the doors and two 6x9"s under the seat(they fit nicely under the seat). Eventually I will build a box and put them in it. The only trouble is that Im going to have to get a mounting unit piece built out of abs plastic. But other than that I had no problem with the wiring. Good luck on putting yours in!

Try a search in this forum for more ideas, we've gone over it a lot before. Someone here has one of those headliners with the four speakers and console. I've seen them at (removed - does not support this site). Maybe J.C. Whitless still carries them.
I replaced the stereo in mine. I made a box that fit under the dash. It sounds great. It is important to get at least a 3 way speaker though if you are mou;nting them as close as I did. You can check my gallery for pics , good luck .
My bezel and "ears" to mount the radio are long gone. Totally cut out. Do they make a kit to fit the oversized factory hole and then put a regular single din radio in. If so where can I get one.

I have the same question too... Doesn't anyone have a creative solution on how to make the angle of the dash work and look alright with a DIN mount radio?

I finally got the nerve up to make a decision on my cd mount the other day. I was going to try to copy the factory bezel with aluminum but there just isnt a whole lot of room side to side to play with so I just made a flat aluminum plate the same size as the old one. Then I cut out the ribs in the ears, not the whole ears, so I could bend them back and reuse them if wanted. To secure the plate i just took some more aluminum and made some little tabs to screw into through the main plate and hold against the back of the dash. It actually looks pretty clean although the angle isnt ideal:-(. Havent done the speakers yet but i think i'll go with the cut door panel route. There's lots of those panels at the junkyards. Just my 2 cents.
I too was wanting a 4-speaker CD system in my 69 Ranger but didn't want to chop up the OEM radio bezel so I purchased a used one off Ebay ($15.00) and bought a universal install kit at Walmart and for about a week studied how to get it to look original and with the right angle. My Sony Explod system has the metal install box for the CD unit so I trimmed the bezel center out and using pieces from the install kit got the right angle and mounted it to the dash using the OEM four corner screws. My door panels were already cut for the 3x5's and I installed bucket seats so in my center console I mounted 6x9's on each side and I can truly say the sound is unreal in a small cab pickup. The original radio and bezel is put up and if I ever have to put it back into the truck it will be no problem. I will post pics soon.
The dude I bought my truck from hacked the hell out of the door pillars to put in the CRAP speakers, and he took a hydralic freakin' hammer to the dash to get his CRAP tape deck to fit. And don't EVEN get me started about his wiring job, it's downright un-American
under there.
I guess that gives me a good reason (and a good place) to put a good stereo and speakers in there, but to make it look nice I'll have to do major cosmetic surgery to the dash.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Dec-02 AT 09:09 PM (EST)]I just bought a nice AM radio on eBay, and I'm going to pull the AM/FM/Casette out that was installed by a previous owner, and hook up the AM to a new speaker in the dash. Santa is bringing me a nice, removeable face AM/FM/CD, which is going to be mounted upright (control facing up) to the front of the seat, over the hump... a bracket will attach to the underside of the front of the seat, no damage to the upholstery... easily accessible by either driver or passenger.
I currently have speaker boxes under the seat, but they are muffled (no comments on my fat a**, please)... I am going to build a new headliner out of 1/4" luan plywood, covered in the appropriate fabric to match my interior (I need a new one anyway), with speakers mounted above the driver and passenger's heads.
Thoughts?
