Found a V10

Folks,
I've been dreaming of a new Super Duty & lurking here for 3 yrs or so. My dream was an F350 diesel, which I don't need but wanted, but all the negative posts concerning reliability was cause for concern. I was hoping it would get better in 04 & 05, which it did, but still more than anticipated. Finally I took a look at the V10 forum. Instead of problems, these guys raved about their trucks & since many were former 6.0 owners, their points were credible. My plans then changed to waiting for the MY08 model with all the new changes, take a look at the 6.4 and weigh it against the V10. Your recent threads about changes (EGR etc) or even dropping of the V10 got the juices flowing, so when I found an 06 F350 Lariet V10 at the local dealer, I motored to town & bought the beast without even a test drive.
From all the knowlege I've gained on this site, had I ordered the vehicle, it would have been an XLT sport, 4X4 with man tranfer case, CC, LB with a 4.30 rear. Alas, this was a Lariet with a 4.10, moon roof, dark stone & beige, automatic trans,, camper pk, FX4 Pkg Tow command, reverse sensors, 6 CD stereo, etc. etc. etc. In other words, loaded. I figured a bird in the hand so to speak. On the ride home, the computer was showing 5.3 MPG. By the time I got home 40 miles later, it was 8.3. The only thing I was apprehensive about was the remarks about how thirsty a beast it was, but I have a '93 F250 with a 351 that has never given me better than 14 MPG, but is still running great with 89K miles.
I just want to sit & look at my beautiful new truck & can't thank you guys enough for all your input. I'm proud to be one of you.

Awww.... you poor thing... You HAD to take the Lariat? I feel SOOOO sorry for you !

It's pretty normal for the computer to take a while what the MPG's really are....

Aww ... you poor, poor baby....

By the time you got it home, did you have any rubber left on those rear treads? When I got mine it had 70k. and I get 11-12 regularly around town. I've heard guys say it takes several thousand miles before it breaks in enough to get better mileage. That's as long as you don't do what Art does and try and race every HEMI you can find.

No, no, you have me confused with someone else, like Capt Charlie...

I can't get any Hemi's to even look at me... I feel lonely...

I am so very serious when I say - any Dodge gets next to me in traffic or at the stoplight, I swear they look over, see the V10 badge and ignore me...

No one wants to play with me...

Montana Jack Congrats on the new truck. Awesome option package and aren't those moonroofs sweet? Don't sweat the 4.10s. A 3valve V10 with 4.10s will toast a 2 valve with 4.30s any time, any place. Stock for stock. Enjoy.

congrats man and yes it's me who has all the local hemi owning wanabes running the other way now. the new ones pull along side look and run.

and by the way guys . a buddy who is the sm at a local dodge shop asked about my mpgs and stated the hemi owners are abitching about 9 and 10 mpgs. says they don't seem to think 12 to13 highway with a heavy pickup should be normal when it is. every one comes back in complaining about bad mpgs after the newness wears off.

art you getting a little anti lariat lately? lariat, lariat, lariat. me to forgot did you not

Montana Jack, in regards to what the MPG's were reading on the computer. Try and give it a reset. See what it reads after that. I almost guarantee you it will be more along the lines of what others are getting.

Enjoy the new truck.

Montana, sounds like you found a great truck. It will give you lots of grins and smirks as you drive it. Lots to be said about that super V10 power plant under the hood. We will leave that to you to to realize.

Good job on the new truck and Welcome to the club and the V10 forum!

Congrats, I hope you enjoy the lariat package. I almost feel guilty riding around in mine. I grew up under the guise that pickups should have vinyl seats and rubber floors.

not knocking them for a work truck. hose them down at the end of the day. a wash and wear truck.
mine is not a work truck.it's a fun/tow/long drive truck. plus i'm a OLD FART who loves soft leather. kind of like putting a lariat/king ranch super duty on a driveway and putting a big full dress harley along side of it. thats how old i am. and how i enjoy my rides. big and soft. o-yea i like my ladies like that also big and soft.
