Have a little problem, think I might know what it is, but I wanted some other opinions first. When I back my truck up (82 F250 4x4 reg. cab) The front tires drag across the road. Also when I make a sharp turn the passenger side tire drags a little, whether I am going forward or reverse. Any thoughts.
Thanks,
-JJ
If the front wheels are not turning while your backing up, it could be your differential. If the wheels are rubbing on the inside of the wheelwell, then that is another problem. 4x4's have at least 2 differentials. One in the front and one in the rear. Sounds like the one in the front is only turning in one direction, forward.
Do you have drum brakes on the front? If so, the brake shoes could be out of adjustment.
Your calipers might be seised... $50 for both of them, and pads (for mine anyways)
Id do new lines too, but its your truck
Jack up the frount end, take off the tire, and try to spin the hub.
If you cant, or its really hard to do, you need new calipers and pads (even if ones bad, replace them both)
If you leave the tires on, you get extra leverage, and wont beable to sence the binding as well
Yes the truck has been sitting for ahwile, haven't had a chance to look it over yet, just wanted to know where to start. The driver's side turns fine, so I'm thinking possibly a ball joint or steering knuckle? I'll check the brakes, although they are pretty new, and it was garage kept after they were put on up until August of last year.
Thanks again and I may have more ?'s once I look at it.
