I doubt the AIR pipe is what is giving you trouble. If the state you live in is not picky about emissions and so forth, I would try plugging the end of the pipe...see if that helps. You are most likely getting water under the distributor cap, next time this happens remove the cap and spray some WD40 inside it and on the rotor...this should clear up the miss. Throw it back together and see what happens, you may have a cracked dist. cap. I have the 300 inline six in my 84 F150 4x4, it is no stranger to mud and deep water...I have never had a problem. Next time you do a tune up (plugs, wires, cap, etc) get yourself a tube of dielectric grease (helps keep electrical connections clean and free of corrosion), put a little daub in the ends of the plug wire boots before installing the wires...should cure some of the problem. BTW anytime you disconnect any electrical plugs or harnesses under the hood or underneath the truck put a little dielectric grease inside them. I have heard of people using silicone, I would think it might make some of the connectors difficult to pull apart should you have to work onthem later. Hope this helps, good luck and have fun!
