Does anybody have a copy of the tech article by Steve Delanty that had plans to make a steering wheel puller?
The link in the tech articles index leads to a dead end. Steve used to be a quite active in the old mailing lists then he seems to have fallen off the edge of the earth.
Last night I was at a stoplight, signalling a left turn when the steering column started to smoke, and the turn signals dont work now...
Ever notice how your passengers tend to get a bit panicky when this happens?
I have never had to use a steering wheel puller(knock's on wood)I just back off the steering wheel nut a little, grab the wheel at the top and the bottom and pull at the top while pushing at the bottom and then reverse the procedure. The wheel will work it's way loose and when it pops it will stop against the nut then simply unscrew the nut the rest of the way off and pull the wheel.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-Jun-02 AT 05:21 PM (EST)]It sounds like you backed off the nut too much dennis.I have done a ton of them and never had that problem.but then again the puller is only 8 bucks.
While working on my 91 Taurus I discovered that the a steering wheel puller works "just slicker than snot on a doorknob" for removing harmonic balancers too.
