00X 4x4 .... My truck is fine when driving until I hit a bad bump or pothole in the road. Then something in the front end starts vibrating very fast... the best way I can describe it is it feels exactly like I am driving on a rumble-strip on the highway. Then I will hit another bump in the road and the vibrating stops. The other day it started doing this and just for my own curiousity I turned the 4x4 switch on and the vibrating immediatley stopped... turned the switch off and the vibrating stayed away until I hit another bad bump.
Where do I start looking to fix this? Thanks

What size tires do you have on your "X" for starters. Is you "X" lifted?
I had a similar problem on my Dodge 2500 4x4. I was running 40's at the time. I Rotated, and balanced and the problem went away.
Maybe that will work for you. Hope so.
The unitized bearing in one of your front hubs is shot. This happened to me a few months ago. Had to replace the hub along with the axle shaft because the bearing wore into the shaft. What is happening is when you have no vibration the bearing is rolling, when you feel the vibration the bearing is jumping around on the shaft cause it's locked up and the shaft is not moving. When you hit the switch the shaft moves so even if the bearing is froze the shaft is still spinning so the bearing doesn't vibrate.
I've had the same vibration for more than a week. Gets worse every time i drive. Last time it got really bad, i was on the interstate, kept slowing down but it didn't get better. Finally pulled off & just opening the door brought a horrible burning smell to nose. I was expecting a leak somewhere. The wheels seemed tight.
There was smoke coming from the hub/brake area on the passenger side. I thought a brake had siezed up. I jacked up that tire, shook it & everything was fine except for a light click/squeeking sound. I looked more closely after things cooled down & saw a bearing dangling around the u-joint.
Anyone know how long i can drive on it before even worse damage occurs? Do the hubs need to be replaced or is this simply a bearing? Most of my driving is short trips only, it could have gone a long time ago & wouldn't have noticed. I'm swapping in a Dana 60 soon & i'm hoping this axle will hold together long enough so i don't have to put anymore money into it.
