Thosw slip yolks in my 250 4x4 are loose,I can move the
driveshaft up and down, they also have rotational play,
do I have to replace the whole works or just the short piece
that covers the splines? Or could I pack some metal in to get
rid of this?
the driveshaft is a balanced unit. replacement of components other than bearings is not for the novice. find a shop that specializes in shaft work. it is really not too expensive. i just had two new ones made for Big Ed and it was 225.00. hawkrod
Hawk , when we replaced all the uj's on my 77 , f250 , hiboy I noticed that the ds to the front axle is loose and can be wiggled like the first poster noted , Question , given the fact that this shaft will only be used very little and more than likely at very low speed, should I just leave it alone or spend the funds to go ahead and take it to a driveline shop and have it redone?, thanks , fd
I just had the front driveshaft on my truck totally rebuilt and it cost me close to $500 canadian. What a difference though! Before i could hardly even drive the truck at all with the hubs locked in let alone the transfer case in 4, too much vibration!! As soon as i have the cash I'll be doing the rear too just to make the old girl as smooth as possible. I would get it done if it needs it, unless you want to switch your hubs every single time...
New slip yolks are 85 bucks canadien and the drive shafts are free
if my neighbour hasn't gotten his hands on'em :-) so I'm goin
all the way, I thought this might be a pricey fixer but guess not.
