the old school way is to put the tires in the air, put the yoke at 12 o'clock, put a chalk mark to match up with on housing, spin tire 1 full revolution and count the number of times the yoke rotates full circle..crude but effective..a small amount of estimation may be required but you can get it pretty close to what it can only be factorywise..use the rim edge as tire size may effect 1 full revolution..if the yoke goes exactly 3 1/2 times then the ratio is 3.50..a little less 3.40 a little over 3 times 3.20..you get the idea

and punched in what I knew and it spit out the gear ratio. The bad thing about that is that it's not terribly precise, but I was only curious and so it worked fine to get me the ballpark.
