shift ****

how is a shift **** mounted to the shift arm on a 92 f150 4speed overdrive?? i dont know if its a press on or if its a twist on. i tried twisting it but it made a cracking noise and i didnt want to break it. i need to take it off to install a new one. thanks

most that I have seen the stick is splined and the **** is a press fit

It will be a press on. The cracking you heard was the teeth of the spline turning over themselves. Just give it a hard pull. She'll come off.
