Tap on rebuilt

I have a rebuilt 300 in my '73. If I give the engine a rev and let off the gas it taps for several seconds. It just started doing this today, what could this be?

it taps after you let off or it taps when you rev it? Did you adjust your rockers correct?

after you rev it and let off, maybe it's just the hydraulic lifters.

proper oil level and viscosity?

motorcraft oil filter?

Rockers were adjusted to spec., 7 qt. 10w30 Motorcraft Oil (Deep Rear Sump Pan), STP Filter (Used on 1978 300 w/o problem). Motor is a 1984 Completely Rebuilt 300. New rockers, springs, pushrods, bearings, pistons, rings, valves, etc. All that was reused was the bare block & head. Compression 140-145psi at 2500 ft of elevation.
