Kicking around the idea of adding an overhead video screen + DVD player in my 2005 F-250 CC. My truck is fairly plain jane XLT, no overhead console so I've got nothing but real estate up there. I've done a little investigating and it looks like there are a few options. Would you recommend a screen+DVD player, or a screen with a separate switch box and DVD source? One must is wireless headphones; I've got no desire to sit through Veggie Tales or Nemo while we're on the road - the 486 times we've seen it at home are plenty, thank you!
Any brand recommendations? Is this a fairly easy DIY kind of job?
For ease of installation...I would recommend the all-in-one unit. However, that does come at a price. Since the single unit is heavier...and the front passangers would not be able to insert a DVD or CD.
The install is NOT easy, and just depends on your skill level. Out of a 1-5 scale...and 5 being the hardest...I would say it is a 4 (not that it is hard...just takes lots of time).
Brands:
JVC KV-MRD900
Sony MV-900SDS Overhead DVD Dreamsystem II
Panasonic CYVHD9500U
One other recommendation: You could also go the headrest route. Get two headrests with the monitors already mounted. One headrest will actually have the DVD player/monitor combo. The installation is easier...because all you have to do is have a power source...and one cable run upto your current stereo with the FM modulator (if you wanted to install the FM modulator).
Just an idea...

I installed the Sony Overhead DVD Dreamsystem in my wife's windstar, all in all not real bad to do, about two days. I did remove the headliner to install supports and cut a hole in the headliner so it looked factory. Have not had any problems with it in two years.
I had an overhead added at the dealer. An audiovox have had 2 problem free years of silence. Came with with 2 sets wireless headphones and I bought a third set at circuit city.
