Any pros or cons to getting a drop axle? I came across one and some reversed eye springs for my 55'. I was thinking of doing this or just putting on some mono leaf springs. Just looking for some opinons on the drop axle setup, if you've had em' or know people that have. =)
There is an article in this months Custom Classic Trucks about putting a Classic Performance Products drop axle on a late 50's chevy. Looks pretty easy, but they had to change to height of the tie rod, as it now hits the spring.
Ax- what did you need to do for your steering? It looks like there would be interference when using a dropped axle, but I've never read anywhere where it said it was a problem. I'd like to have my axle dropped, but I'd like to know what is involved first.
the steering will clear unless you drop the axle >3" If you go lower, Mid Fifty sells offset steering arms so the draglink will clear the tierod. Mine is dropped 2". I'd expect that deep drops will also need to be twisted so you can get enough caster without adding a bunch of alignment wedges.
I am planning on a dropped axel in mine but out off money this year (As for the moment). From my understanding it is an easy process. I am doing so just because everyone who say's "Hey Kyle why dont you put on a clip" seem to never around to help when you get in over your head.
