What is the best way to get as much tranny fluid out as you can with out paying someone to flush it? (Tranny and TC) I saw on another post someone said you can do it but never explained how. Any help?
By flushing it yourself. Drain and refill the pan, remove the back cooler line, attach a hose to it, run it to a bucket. 1/2" or 5/8" clear is nice. I used an old garden hose. Have someone start the truck, the line will build pressure and you should see a bubble come out, if not only run truck about 10-15 sec. Refill pan, and repeat. You should see some color difference when all the old fluid has been pushed out. I used about 18 qts when I flushed mine. A little tip/advice, get an oil pump, it is alot easier and quicker than pouring 18 qts of tran fluid in a small funnel that drains really slow. Having done this multiple time in the past couple of weeks, I'd get a clean 3 gal bucket, make sure it is clean, fill it about 1/2 way full of new ATF, lay a towel out, sit bucket on passenger battery, and start pumping away.
went to Lowe's and found a hose that fit (almost too tight) over the cooler return line. matter of fact, it was so tight i had to heat it up some with a torch to make it pliable so it would slide over the nipple. good idea, i thought. nah, it doesn't need a hose clamp because the shrunken hose will hold it on. it's only a 5' piece of hose, it won't build pressure? wrong. i dont remember which, but on the last fill, i ran the selector through the gears and i believe when i went from N to D, a bunch of oil ran through the line, blowing my hose off and paying down a nice puddle of ATF on the floor. use a hose clamp or two.
