How about a step back? If you have twin i beams in this truck and i am assuming it is a 66 by your handle the engine will either be a 240 or 300 cubic inch six>>>????

The weight of the 300 and the 429 is not that far apart.

Please post if the truck is definatly a twin I beam truck or a straight Axle truck?

We can narrow it down quite a bit as to how to hook and lower it once the heritage is known.

Ok, Is the intake manifold on the drivers side or the passenger side of the engine?

The reason Garbz is asking that is that it would truly be a rare truck, to have a 223 2 years after they stopped putting them in Ford trucks.

Unless someone installed it later.

The six weighs as much as a 429?! Yikes, I thought the 429/460s were the heaviest, around 650lbs.

The 300 is a heavy bugger topping off at around 620 pounds dressed. It carries its weight in the additional main bearing races the the V8 does not use. Also makes up for it in the crank.

The six springs and the V8 springs are the same part numbers. untill you get into the supercabs then they change fo the added front cab weight.

I agree with Garbz and if you have a 100amp Alternator, A/C Compressor & power strg pump set up, it weighs even more. . . . . the truth is in the springs.

BIG66PROJECT have you thought about Pro-Streeting your truck? With the
bigger tires on the back, would really help with getting the power to the
pavement, depending on the H/P you may want 4/link or ladder bar rearend,
but if you don't want to cut your truck in ( HALF ),then you may want to
move the leafs inside the frame! When moving the leafs inside the frame
the truck can still be very usable with the right set of tubbs (Thick ones)!

P.S. I may be over thinking this you may be wanting a work truck, and not
a street/ strip truck?

Wink

I run a 460 with probably 475 honest horse pressure, but I make close to 575 lb/ft of twist. I turn mid 12's and have huge big end speed. I haven't had any frame problems the way I'm set up. I also like to road race my slick too.

I'd get better ETs with drag specific suspension, but I live, & love to drive it. That means anywhere any time. I don't use a ladder system I use single link traction bars w/ double hiem ends. They do go bad often from road crap getting in them.
