I have a 1997 F-350 7.3 PSD. I took it to the local Ford dealer due to a rough idle and plumes of blueish smoke coming out of the exhaust. I was told I needed two injectors, the pedestal which holds turbo, two Y-pipes, and one oil pressure sensor. The cost quoted was approximately $4,400 for which I gave approval. I was to pick it up this past Monday. But, I received phone call that morning from the dealer saying that they had bad news. On the test drive, the truck ran great for a short time. But, it then started running very rough. The mechanic stopped, opened the hood, took the oil cap off the motor, and saw that it had a large amount of blow-by. They are now telling me that I need a whole new freakin' motor! This truck only has 84,000 miles on it and is in absolutely ain't-no-lie excellent condition. Honestly, it has been nothing but babied! I have my suspicions about all of this. But, I want to see what the readers of this forum think without further comment before I decide where to go from here. Thanks in advance for your replies.
I would tell them to un-do what they have done.... Take your truck and RUN away from them as fast as you can. Sounds like they are taking you for a ride my friend.
Go get your truck...right now. Do not, under any circumstance let those thieves ever touch anything you own again in your life. You have already spent $4400 bucks for $900 worth in parts.
i wouldnt even drive get it towed outta there. i bet they hydrolocked it when they fired it up
i think he means up pipes instead of y pipe. if there loose they rattle them selfs smaller
Is there a possibility that they left part of one of the old Injectors in the head and push it into the Cylinder when they replaced it with the new Injector, then when they fired the truck the left over part (the nozzel) could go throug the top of the piston, I live in Southern California. I'm looking for any sort of since that I bring a prefectly good truck in to be repaired for what i think is a injector and the next thing i know they want me to buy a new motor for something they did to it, My Attorney tells me not to move the truck at this time because thier liability is still in thier hands as long as i haven't taken it out of thier shop, Buy the Way A New Motor is 14000.00 big ones installed, and they have now discounted my bill to 3200. hundred dollars if I'd come pick it up ASAP, GEEEZ I wonder Why !!!!!!!!!!!!! one last thing, they'd credit the 3200 hundred toward the new motor, Big Of Them
I agree go get it, but if they have to keep it them make sure they dont touch it.
there is NO POSSIBLE WAY for any old part of the injector to get left in there AND have them reinstall new ones, so I would not worry about that. it is very possible that the mechanic saw a fair amount coming out the oil fill hole. these things have alot of blow buy even when they are tight, with low miles. Cut and paste this link, this is the blow by out of my one of my motors, prolly had 215K when the pic was taken.
this is at idle, notice the qantity and the force/speed it is coming out.
FORCE them do a compresssion test, if ANY cylinder is below 350 psi then MAYBE it will need a new motor, but I HIGHLY doubt it. this should be a REQUIREMNT if they think you need a new motor. happy battling with the stealership.
on edit, the rough running could just be air still trapped in the HPOP system from the injector change, this may take a few days to work out depending on the style and length of the drive.
