Question How muck power?

Ok I have the numbers so now I need the real world. I have a 2003 F-350 V-10 with 3.73s and now have 285/75/16 BFGs and with that tire combination I have taken the gear ratio to 3.59to1.
Now my question is how much power to the peddle differance is that really going to make? I think Im going to go back to the 265/75s cause I have got a little wandering and Thanks to a couple of you guys with the same thing I believe it to be caused by the tire swap but I cant get through my head how much power am I loosing from the bigger tires... I meen were talking about a little over an inch. 265s are 31.6inches and 285 are 32.8.? can someone give me a little input on this?

Thanks
JT

I have 255/85's (about 33 inches) and have had no power loss whatsoever.

I've had no wandering problems either, but the 255's are not as wide. It's a Catch22 - you can lower the air pressure and get full tread, but you'll loose MPG a little. I suppose you are running the stock 7" wide wheels?

As to the wander: Did you change rims too? And is the backspacing the same ?

I have 285/75/16s on my truck and I get a little wondering too. I will tell you to buy a good quality tire as it will make a hudge difference. The other thing you need to remember is our trucks are extremely wide already, when you put on wider tires it compunds this fact and will tend to wonder a little when getting into rutted asphalt or concrete. You may not be able to see the ruts but I assure you they are there, watch where the water sits after a rain! The ruts are generally narrower than the foot print of the SD trucks. They'll do it with stock tires to, just not as noticeable.

Also if you go wheeling make sure you break the path as your truck won't follow 1/2 ton tracks worth a damn! The guys behind you (in 1/2 tons) will be cussing though!

One other thing, 285's on stock-width rims is pushin' it, no? Maybe the tread being curved too far is causing the wandering...

If he's running the stock wheels - that extra width will give him the blues...
