My wife was driving home when she said that front drivers side tire locked up. Any ideas? I have not seen the truck yet as I am at work. I just changed the front pads and rotors about 2 weeks ago.
Did you change the pads and rotors yourself, or let someone else. Sometimes if you torque the bolts improperly, the rotors will warp and at the extreme bust or crack.
Seems if it's a wheel bearing assy that you would have felt and heard it long before they failed to that extent. It is a 4x4, right?
Most likely the caliper froze up. It may release when it cools off,but don't be fooled!
It will happen again! I have had this happen on many vehicles, when you push in the caliper piston somtimes on older vehicles, you are pushing it into dirty area with rust and old brake fluid, even though it may have went in easy,it still will stick especially
when it heats up. That is why I always reccomend new (or rebuilt) calipers on all my customers vehicles if they are over 3 years old and/or have over 50k miles on them.
Well, I found the problem. I am embarassed to say that I did not torque the large caliper bolts enough when I did the brakes and they worked themselves loose. I do not know what happened from there. It is a project for my day off tomorrow but at least I know where to start!
Make sure that the slide pins didn't get bent or the bracket.also if the wheel locked up at high speed the tire is flat spotted now. Will cause a vibration
