Got a "new" F-150 -- Questions

Hi,

I just bought a 1990 F-150 5.8L truck (4x4), 3 speed autom. About 100kmiles old.
I immediately drove about 330miles the same day. Everything went well -- no funny sounds or anything.
At 80km/h (50mph) it has about 2500rpm!! Is that a 4.11 differential?
Vin 2FTEF14H9JCA24236 - can anybody tell me how to decode this?
Is it possible to install a overdrive in it?

I already changed the battery because it didn't seem to be starting so well. Of course engine oil and filter and checked the tranny oil.

I already have a Screw 2004 -- great trucks!

thanks a lot for answers

There should be 4 speeds... 1,2, Drive, and Overdrive. There's 2 transmissions offered, both are 4 speed. One is electronic. You need to find your last gear somehow. is there a button at the end of your shifter arm? You might have turned off overdrive.

I have a 92 F150 with five speed manual transmission and 4.10 axle ratio and 235/75 x 15 tires and I turn 2000 RPM at 50 MPH in overdrive.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm pretty sure it is a 3 speed -- I read somewhere that Ford delivered these also with 3 speed autom.trannys. But I will check once I get a chance (the truck is parked in my parents garden in Finland and I live in Switzerland -- distance about 1400miles).

Post C6<< its very possible

2FTEF14H9JCA24236

Doesn't the H9 mean a limited slip 3.55 differential (3800 lbs)?

If it is an auto, it either has the AOD (non electronic 3 sp+OD) rated to 700 ft/lbs torque
E4od (electric 3sp+OD) rated 1000 ft/lbs torque
C6 (3 sp, NO overdrive!) Total beast- i've yet to see or hear of one that puked

I don't know how to calculate it... but i think you have 3.55's and your 3rd gear ratio is 1:1

If we had tire size... maybe we could throw that into the blender and make it come out nice for ya.

(oh and you can get OD with an engine swap, but I don't KNOW of any other way-somebody else might)

Hi FghtinIrshNvrDie,

Yeah, I have a F-150 2004 Screw model in Switzerland -- nice truck in a bl..dy small country.

I didn't note the tire size -- except I had the feeling they were too small.
