Exclamation Headlight Switch

I have a 1977 F250 that I am installing a Painless Performance wiring harness in and am have some trouble identifying where to hook up the new wires to. I have no origianal wiring in the truck. I have a headlight switch out of a 79 Bronco and it has 8 prongs on it. They are: A, B, P, D1, D2, I, R and H. Can anyone tell me what each of these prongs would be for? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Bill

This looks more Painful than Painless.

I assume you don't have a haynes manual ?

I'll see what I can find.

btacarlton, head light switch terminology
A - red wire - positive power from fuse fuse block
-
D1 - yellow wire - dome light > positive power in from fuse block
D2 - white wire - to dome light > positive power out to dome light
H - light blue wire - to dimmer switch > from head light switch to top prong on dimmer switch
R - brown wire (parking lights and side lights)

I do have wiring diagrams but in the original harness, power for certain circuits are routed through other circuits. And of course the diagrams do not show the letters that are on the switch. I tried to check resistance across the different prongs on the switch, but I believe that each light off the switch gets it's ground somewhere other than the switch. Needless to say, this is the first wiring project that I have undertaken and am learning as I go. Again, any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Head light switch terminology = wiring color reference for headlight.
Sorry for the confusion.

Sorry, when I looked at your post the first time there was no wire designations. Probably a computer error on the page or something. Thanks for the help.

OK, I have now talked to two different techs at Painless Performance this is what they tell me:

A - Not used
B - Power
P - Park Lights
I - Instrument/Dash Lights
R - Tail lights
H - Dimmer
D1, D2 - Dome?

One tech says the ground from the dome light goes to D1 and the other tech say it depends on the type of switch, because some switch ground and others switch power.
This Painless kit is getting more PAINFUL by the minute.

Ok, painless wiring can be confusing, like to add,
B - battery power from fuse box for headlight switch.
D1 - dome light > positive power in from fuse block
D2 - to dome light > positive power out to dome light
disregard colors of wire mentioned above.
What wiring kit are you using?

I am using an 18 circuit universal truck harness. So is A the power or is B the power? Or am I just not understanding?! All these colors and wire numbers from painless are starting to twist my brain!

Part number 10118, 14 Circuit w/Switches (1967-1977) Ford F-Series Trucks, would of been a better retrofit.
Part number 10204, 18 Circuit Pickup Harness non GM Keyed Column.

Yes, I didn't do enough research before I bought this kit. Well I have a few different ways to try hooking the dome light up. According to the Painless manual, power from the fuse box goes directly to the dome light and the ground is not very clearly described. How do I incorporate the door jamb switches into the mix?
