gear box lever chugg??
hey i have a 1976 high boy 4x4 with a np205 transfercase, 4 speed tranny and a hopped up around 500 horse engine. and when i put a bit of foot into it the 4x4 to 2whdr to 4x4L shifter really moves around. and when driving down the high way it rattles ? like grinding but it stays in 2whdr or 4x4 ? any opinions>?

This isnt too uncommon. There are bushings in the shifter where the shifter mounts to the tailshaft of the transmission that could be worn out or gone. The Ford part# for these bushings is E0TZ-7335-C. If that doesnt stop the rattle, you can get a clutch return spring (or simillar) and put a little tension on the lever to stop the rattle. Another thing people do is put pipe insulation on the shifter lever.
EDIT: Also, there is a big bolt that holds the shifter to the tailshaft, it may be loose. I cant remember what size it is, but it's like 7/8 or 13/16.
