Rear End
So the other day i was driving my f250 in the snow in 4 wheel drive, all of a sudden my rear end locked up snapped the ujoint and broke the rear yolk on the drive shaft. Well the drive shaft was repaired and now to the rear end i took off the back plate of the pumpkin and i saw some broken and cracked teeth on the main drive gear and its still locked up, im wondering how hard it is to change the gears in this ford rear end. And is it hard to find parts for it thank you in advance for your input.

Are the broken teeth the spider gears, or ring and pinon gears? parts are not hard to find most parts houses. If the spider gears are what broke you need to check the carrier very close to be sure it isn't cracked.

You could also try to find a junkyard that has the Sterling rear axle. They came in F-250's and single rear wheel F-350's from 84 to 97. The local yard here has at least 6 of them just sitting there waving at me, and they have the gear ratio written on the housings.
