I was wondering if someone can give me a recommendation for some head studs to swap out the factory head bolts in my 05' F-350 6.0L. I have heard that ARP has some if you special order them, but I also heard that they were not worth the money. This was all just hearsay though. Can anyone with experience on this matter please give me their input.
What kind of issues have they found with the gasket? Ford is actualy replacing this engine and I was going to ask them to use the head studs instead of the bolts when they do it. What kind of gasket are they replacing it with, and were do I buy them at?
the 05 should already have the updated gaskets, they are a higher quality that will give if the head bolts stretch very little.at normal head pressures the stock bolts will hold no problem with these gaskets.its when you raise the pressures above stock the bolts need to be addressed.i think stock is 190,000 psi and arp are 195-215,000 psi depending what grade you purchase and can cost 600 - 1200 $.if you plan on adding any extra hp and have the engine out get them done.you can only do it right with the engine free.
The head gaskets are MLS ( Multi-layer-steel ) and IH had a bad run of gaskets enter production at one time. The problem is torque to yield head bolts.
Order upper kit which includes head gaskets and all the o-rings you need to do the job, the intake gasket is reusable, pitch the torque to yield head bolts and install head studs from A-1 Technology which ATS Performance sells or order the now revised ARP bolt. The first released bolts from ARP were lower grade.
