I bought my 2005 PSD last August and have been getting 19 point something consistantly until the last two tanks full. It has dropped down to high 15's, low 16's on last two tanks. The only 2 differences have been: 1 - Winter and 2 - I did a muffler delete and added the straight pipe. (Left the Cat in place). Please tell me it's the winter fuel and not the muffler delete! It sounds too good w/o the muffler. Suggestions? Better fuel milage with the muffler or install a straight thru muffler or wait till spring and check again? I don't have the lie-a-meter, so caclulations were done by hand.
Most winter blend fuels are blended at the tank farm (pipe line) when the fuel transport truck is loading. Some stations can blend at the pump if they have the facilities to store #1 and #2 fuel.
The blending is done at the request of the station owner depending on if he or she feels the temperature warrants a winter blend fuel.
If the temps in AZ. for a period of time warrant this, it could be a blend fuel.
Any proportion of #1 and #2 will decrease the quality and cetane of the fuel, weather it is an 80/20, 70/30 50/50 or higher blend of fuel depending on the temps in that area of the country.
Some stations will even mix an anti-gell additive such as Artic Express with the fuel.
Most stations selling a premium fuel have added the Artic Express to the fuel.
A premium fuel is normally good to below 32 degrees and down to around 20 degrees, however if the part of the country requires a below 0 fuel the artic express will be added to further drop the gell point.
Example: Gell point of #2 fuel is 32 degress.........stanadyne claims to drop gell point 40 degrees = -8 deprees below????????????? be carefull.
Come to think of it, I did do the fill-up at the same station on the way to upstate NY and also on the return trip. Station was a Mobil station and had a sign on pump that it was treated winter blend. I sure am glad that it's probably the fuel....that 20 MPG sure looked good last fall!
you get the latest re-call/update? by per chance??? that was when our trucks all lost 5-7 mpg`s!! dealer said..too bad, so sad.. only a few..that they have seen have had a power and fuel economy loss, but they checked have no answers...
(can`t fix what they can`t find, and area rep says it`s normal...) duh maybe check for a sticky egr valve, or a plugged/gummed up set of fuel filters.
Got the reflash and new decal on coolant bottle and they replaced the Exhaust Gas Sensor today...didn't really see and difference on the way home after...about 20 miles. Muffler delete still sounds good! Asked about installing gauges while there (including EGT) and they said no problem. Sounds like I have a sympathic dealer!! Miller Bros in Ellicott City, MD. Will keep an eye on fuel milage for a while. Stay tuned....
