OK...I have read through many threads about this but it just seems like a big mess of information. I am hoping someone has done this and can just point me to a kit that I can go buy, install and go. What I want to do is install a remote starter on my truck, BUT!.......NOT have to leave a spare key inside attached to some box to read the chip code. For theat matter, I don't want to leave any key inside at all. I would rather have something that gets programmed to sit in there for the code reading when starting.
There is a Ford accessory that is installed at the column to bypass the PATS without use of a key. It works in mine with the Ford "Gold" remote start/security system. I don't know if it works with aftermarket systems, but I would think that it, or something similar, does because the Ford system is made by others.
DEI, the makers of the Viper system of remote starts, have a $50 module that goes in to the steering column. It's only activated during a remote start. But when activated, it throws off the same code to the PATS system that a key would when in the iginition.
I've had one of the Viper Remote starts with this module in my 2003 Screw for a year now with no problems. They warned me that the module could eventually wiggle out of place in the column and not work. But that hasn't happened yet.
Hmmm Ford Gold? Well Then it looks like I have two choices...dealer...Oh god that is gonna hurt. Or the Viper unit . I'll check em both out to see what the diff in $$ is.
Sorry, I don't remember the cost. I did get my dealer to allow me to install it myself, and he gave me a discount from the list price. I find that most dealers will discount those prices if you ask nice.
