460 heads "swapping"

I have a 77 460, I plan on doing a a re ring, bearing replacement and mild cam. I can quesstimate how much doing thats going to cost but what about the heads, from past experience rebuilding heads is abit spendy, I have an idea of the condition of the heads I have now with out looking at them and I know its bad( only starts up with a ether) so I was wondering if it would be worth it to rebuild them or get a set from the bone yard that are in decent shape? are 460 heads interchangable form year to year? I'm on a low budget for this project, I plan on taking the engine and swapping it in my 84 f150 with a 351W which is another can of worms I'm not sure about.

well the 460 heads will be the same from 1973-1986 so those are interchangable, anything later or earlier will be different. Later you won't be able to bolt up your intake, and earlier will have different issues such as smaller combustion chambers so WILL raise your compression and sometimes will raise it enough that you won't be able to run anything but premium gas. Also earlier heads will probably require different pushrods, and rocker arms and in some instances are just plain a bad choice for a cylinder head (IE D2VE casting number is one to stay completely away from they only marginally make a decent door stop at best)
