i have a 2002 explorer 4.0 just bought it a month ago i noticed it seems to smell hot when i park it in the garage the gauge is reading normal but it smells hot. when you shut it off i hear a pop sound one pop like its releaseing pressure like when you open a jar pop sound
being used i wonder if it had a radiator leak and they but 2 much stop leak in it and plugged something up
any help would be great
what does hot smell like that popping is the metal heating up and expanding when you turn the car off the metal cool down and contracts so that popping is most likely the transmission or oil pan my explorer doesn't do this but my gmc does it every time I turn it off
just smells like overheated antifreeze oils are all fine but i would say hot antifreeze
what color is your Antifreeze?
you might be running a hot enough engine to burn the Antifreeze. If thats the case, then he need take it into a ford dealer ASAP or you will continue to burn up your engine since it's running hotter then normal and maybe burning your antifreeze with it. Its worth getting it checked out if it smells like burnt Antifreeze
well i think its fixed lol the thermostat was bad i tried soaking it in boiling water and
it wouldn't open tried it several times and never could get it open even with 240 degree water so hopefull this fixes it i did drain the coolant out of it and flushed the radiator i know i didn't get it all but i got alot of it just weird it wasn't reading too hot on the gauge
