if any one can help please do so ! i have an 88 f-250 5.8 that the emission controls are off and i need to put them back on but don't know were a few parts go and i don't know what i'm missing pictures or were to find info on how the system is supposed to look and function would be appreciated my fuel mileage is horrible and the truck does not run very well this is the way i recieved the truck and i'm just trying to put it back to factory specs to use for work thank you in advance ken
If you live in a state that doesn't open the hood during inspection, make sure your catalytic converter is in good shape (or new) and you should pass no problem.
NJ is fairly close to CA, CT and MA in emissions testing, and my 93 crewcab goes right through with just a cat. All the other stuff is physically mounted there, but does absolutely nothing but take space and add weight at this point.
i'm not worried about passing emissions at this time the truck runs horrible with the air pump system, the thermactor divertor and bypass not connected i can't tell if this is the problem or if there is something else so i want to put it back to origonal and start from there i inherited this problem previous owner took things apart and didn't put them back properly
well I don't think it is the lack of emmission control system that is causeing the prob bob blocking off the egr inlet and bypassing the air pump should only make your check engin light come on unless you put in a chip so i would check the ignition system 1st then worry about the smog crap latter it don't help ya or hurt ya it is there mearly to reburn what the cat won't I've seen a cracked insulator on a plug make a 5.0 run like poo poo think small start small don't waste time and money on thing that you know might or might not fix the problem pull your plugs i bet a dollar to a donut that you have a fouled or wet plug or some typy of ignition problem
