I've had a few old coupes with a roll down back window but never saw an effie with one. I suppose you might be able to fabricate something but you would also have to fabricate a drain pan underneath to keep water out of the interior. An easier idea might be adapting a more modern horizontal sliding rear window instead of roll down. Someone might even make one for an effie...not sure...
I have seen a few trucks that had the power sliding window. I like the idea a lot and would like to do it to my truck. I'm sure there are kits out there or you could always fab up your own. Good luck.
Thanks for asking, I installed a power up and down window in a 56. Used the power unit from the tailgate of a full size CountrySquire wagon. I don't have a picture of any of it but it was a really simple job, I think if I did another one I would cut away half of the sheet metal on the window opening to get the glass closer to the outer surface of the cab. GO FOR IT!!!!!
Fatfenders, what did you use for the seal on the top and sides, and the bottom?
I used a steel cased window channel, the kind you see with stainless bead on the edge. I rolled that to the shape of the window and welded on little mounting tabs that bolted to the flange around the window. I sealed the bottom with the rubber wiper that normally is used on the bottom of the window opening on your doors. Mounting the regulator was just some simple bracketry. I liked the tailgate regulator because the glass was real close to the size of the truck window. I also built in a little ''drip tray'' with a drain hose in case it ever leaked but it turned out it didn't. I sure would like to know what happened to the truck, the guy who owned it lost it in a divorce settlement and I never saw it finished. It was a 53 that had been chopped and had a 56 roof skin. good luck FF56
Welcome to the Forum, I have never seen a roll up rear window in a pickup either. I does sound very interesting and a good alternative to the slider, and much more secure. You should develop one; you never know it could make you wealthy.
Didn't the late '60s or early '70s Mercury Monterreys have a power rear window? I was an early teen ager in the early '70s and our neighbors Mercury had one that had a reverse pitch compared to most rear windows. Only now does it make sense, it slid down behind the rear seatback and stayed out of the trunk.
