Turbo replacement
I have a 2004 F250 CC FX4 Lariat with a build date of 2/04 and the dealership is replacing my turbo due to stuck vanes and overboosting. I was wondering if the revised turbocharger (5c3z-6k682-ca) will fit an 04 model or is this something for just the 05-06 models. I have read on this forum that some have had it installed on their 04's while others have said that the mounts are different. Will this revised turbocharger (5c3z-6k682-ca) fit my truck without modifications? Are the turbochargers interchangeable between the 04, 05, 06 models? I need to be armed with as much info as I can get before I go back to the dealership in the morning and ask that this turbo be placed on my truck instead of just another rebuilt 04 turbo. I appreciate any useful info that I can get.

5c3z-6k682-ca Turbo is installed on my 04 with a build date of 12/03. I'm not aware of any modifications in order for the turbo to work on a 04. The 05 / 06 turbo was already modified to address "turbo flutter" in 05. Chances are it will be replaced again at some point in time if they install a rebuilt 04 turbo on your truck.
I would ask your service department if they are aware of the TSB in regards to 5c3z-6k682-ca being a machined recessed turbo to address the problem with vanes sticking.

I went back to the service department today and asked the service manager about this TSB in regards to 5c3z-6k682-ca and I was told that this did not apply to my truck as this was for 05-06 vehicles only and that this turbo would not fit my truck. Sounds like BS to me.

It is true that it won't fit your truck. The turbo has changed the position of the exhaust pipes, from basically two behind the motor to one behind and one on the right side if you are looking under the hood. This turbo is for 05-06 models I believe.
