I have a 2000 Windstar with the 3.8 L motor. The black platic housing on top of the engine between the valve covers, I think this is the intake. Anyway, I have intermittent ticking coming from this black platic cover. It doesn't do it all of the time, mostly at idle. I had the TSB that replace the rubber stems and the faulty valve cover that let oil go up into the area about 20,000 miles ago, is there something inside there that would be out of adjustment?

Have your dealer do an OASIS (online automotive service information system) check to see if this needs a recall. Certain years of Winstars had an intake system recall. There was an inside baffle that came apart.
Sorry, I only know Aerostars but could it be the sound of the injectors you hear under that cover? Is this related to a performance problem or could it be just a routine noise?
Thanks for the tip. After searching around it does appear that there is a problem with the plastic upper intake and the inner piece that goes with it. Sad thing is I just paid about $650 for the dealer to replace the isolator bolts and valve cover from another TSB on a vacum leak I had. The TSB recomended replacing the upper intake, and I am sure this was not done, and it has been over 1 year so I am SOL on that one. I have seen some use RTV sealent to glue this piece back into place, or i can spend $150 for a new upper intake and then have to tear it down to replace it.
I would look for an aluminum intake out of an older Windy/Taurus/Mustang and replace. The plastic ones are POS.
And don't let the site scare you off. Definitely a DIY, just alot of hoses and bolts to remove (tape and number the hoses to their locations so you don't forget where they go or how many.)
