67 galaxie interior HELP!

67 galaxie interior HELP!
ok so im redoing my interior on my 67 galaxie-and in some spots i find some sort of pad with brown like goo? on them? mostly on weld spots-and other miscellaneous spots. Mostly on metal pieces where they are welded. So im thinking it is some type of weld sealant/protectant.
so it is a brownish black goo, it is hard yet spongy. Has large craters all about the same size. If anyone knows of the top of their head what it is it would be greatly appreciated. By the way it looks gross. If i need to i will upload a picture, if i get around to it.
My main problem is i am afraid that it is a mold or something bad. Any help is great.
