separateing flex plate and torque converter ?

When putting my engine back in my truck 351M/C6 2wd(transmission is still in truck with convertor) I noticed that I had to get the 4 studs of the convertor lined up with the holes in the flex plate while mating the two. My question is this normal for this Fords? The reason I ask is because on all the GM products I've done in the past I was able to push the convertor back to the trans, mate the engine and transmission then turn and/or slide the convertor toward the flex plate and bolt them together last. When putting the flexplate and convertor together there was only minimal movement between the two before bolting them together nothing was FORCED together.I have not started the truck yet because I'm not sure this is normal. Hope I gave enough information! PS: While reading my post before sending it off I had a thought. I think all the GM's used bolts to join the two parts and my truck has studs on the convertor. Is that why it had to go together this way?

yes all fords are like that you must mach the holes up to the converter to the flex plate
also make sure you can move the converter it should move a little in the flex plate holes once you have the tranny bolted together if ther is no movment it meens the converter is not all the way in

There is also a hole for the torque converter drain plug that has to line up as well.

Thanks for the quick response; Yes it could move any little in every way and my flex plate had a hole for the drain lug in all four posittions. So I now feel safe that that part is good to go. THANKS AGAIN
