OK, I've been "told" my tubro needs to be re built ot replaced.
But how can I check it ?
Mine is an early '99 so a wicked wheel..
What or how do they test it ?
Gages ? Inspection ? or what ?

to check the clearances on the TURBO, you can do it with the turbo on the truck. measure the endplay by pushing axially on the turbo shaft. then use the same linear dial micrometer (forget the proper name) to check side play. there should be .000-.002" of end play, and about .005-.010" of radial side play. make sure the compressor and/or turbine wheel does not come in contact when you push radially and spin. i would have a professional shop that know's what they are doing, look at it.
