Well the time has come to bid our 1993 4.0 Eddie Bauer extended old girl farewell. We've owned since 1993, but now the kids are grown we have no use for such a large vehicle.
For those of you who have disposed of Aeros in the past, what has been the best? ebay? Autotrader? other?
Thanks to all of you who have helped me through past challenges. This forum and you have been the best. Keep up the great work! I will miss you!
Yes, you've guessed it, the replacement is from an island in the far east Pacific!
Thanks again!
vintage,
13 years of reliable faithful service, can't ask anymore...she took care of your family well
how many miles has the old girl carried you in comfort and safety?
a glass of Aero white in salute to the retiring driveway champ of the highway
You shouldn't have much of a problem (except for the mileage) ridding yourself of your trusty van. 4wd, Eddie Bauer,4.0, good combo. I had a heck of a time getting rid of my 93 XL with 3.0 and a rebuilt tranny. But I live in sometimes snowy and always hilly Pittsburgh, where people shunned RWD a long time ago. Even with a Traction-Lok axle, I couldn't give the thing away, even with only 83k.
Ebay isn't bad, but people want a bargain because of the cost of shipping or having to pick-up the item, so I wouldn't go there first. Newspaper and Auto Trader are good, if you have a Pennysaver magazine or paper, try there.
I agree with focusyn, list it in your local thrifty nickle type paper (the free ones you see in grocery stores and gas stations,) before e-bay. E-bay will take a hefty chunk out of what you make, and you will doubtfully make as much as selling it locally.
Sorry to hear that the only star is hitting the road, but I bet it will find a good new home.
coulden't find a buyer around pittsburgh?? heck my boss has gone all over to collect the 11 or 12 aerostars that we have now, and we are based right out side of pittsburgh. anything in decent shape he'd consider.
The best results has been E-Bay. Usually it does not "sell" on E-Bay, it is "sold" to the local buyer who shows up who saw it on E-Bay, and I end the auction early.
Thanks for the responses. Yeah, I kind of agree with the ebay way because the market will determine the sale price. It's a one owner van, always in Florida with zero rust and runs well, so if I put a reasonable reserve on it, I think it will sell. Too bad it has to go, but it's taking up space in the driveway!
Needs a good cleaning first though. I'll keep you posted
You know as soon as you get rid of you'll need it or wish you had it back.
I have also heard that if you donate it you can get more back for it.
Say you sell it and you get 1000-1500 for it but if you donate it you can get a
3000-3500 write-off for it.

Not anymore. It used to be that way. Now, the charity must send you a note telling you how much they got by selling that car, and that's all you are allowed to deduct. Uncle Sam doesn't miss a thing

high moral used car lot dealers prey upon and have standing deals with most local charities, they give them low dollar bottom of the barrel wholesale, not near wholesale blue book....saves the charities all the headaches of dealing with private buyers and they still get some free $$$$$
not a place to get a decent tax deduction for your vehicle
