Carberator and linkage problems.......

LAST EDITED ON 04-Jan-01 AT 01:10 AM (EST)[p]I just put a new 390 engine in my 1970 F250 but is doesn't have much power. I have to mash the accerator half way down before it gets any gas at all. It disels back when I turn off the ignition. Another Ford man told me today to work on the linkage and to get a Pro-Tech ignition to put under the rotor. He says this makes it run 100% better. Anyone have any thoughts on this. I would like to get it running like it should. Thanks.

Hi Yak, did you try pushing the accelerator from under the hood, right on the side of the carb, if that doesnt work then that eliminates your linkage, then I guess that tells you something is messes up with the carb itself. Let me know what happens. ~Mike

yak, Surely you checked to see that the throttle valve was opening all the way! A new engine...and you allow it to diesel!! Don't do that. Adjust the timing back a few degrees check for vacuum leaks and run premium fuel. Don't pound the engine until you have a few thousand miles on it.
