Front Bed Panel Removal
OK, I got my bed off today but now I'm stuck on how to remove the front bed panel. I thought the thing was held on by the 4 rivets on each side and a couple of screws at the top. I got those out, but the thing is spot welded on there. Whats the best way to get it off? I don't want to screw up the metal.

They make a special drill bit for dirlling out spot welds. I think they make them in 2 or three different sizes. Check out a local tool dealer or auto body supply shop in your area.

If you can't find the spot weld drill bit locally, Eastwood sells them. I used one from Eastwood to remove a front bed panel. Sand down the paint to help locate the spot welds, there are a bunch of them. I actually had a harder time removing the top bolts with a philips head than the spot welds due to rust. Good luck.

www.autobodytoolmart.com, a mailorder body shop supply company, has several to choose from. They have a 100+ page catalog, and sell tools, filler, primer, paint booths etc. I drilled my bed front, and had to persuade it with a cold chisel. That's the bed front from my "shrinking in bed" thread. The heat shrinking worked great, and it's going back in soon.
