picked frame from blasting and noticed something wrong
i send out frame for glass bead blasting to 2 day and was about 140.00 very nice job but when i got it home i noticed that the rear engine mounting bracket was cut out and moved forward about 3 to 4 inches. what the reason for that any one know it has a y block v 8 in it it came with a 6cyl is that the reason any help would be very much welcome
Sounds to me like this. The frame was an orignal 6 cyl, and some one installed a Y-block. Here is what they did wrong, the 6 and the y8 both use a front mount engine mount and bell housing mount. The Y 8 is "SUPPOSED" to have its own cross member, this cross member sits just behind the 6 cyl mount. It sounds to me like they moved the bell housing mount foward so they could use the front 6 cyl mounting location.
I have done a couple of these transplants and if you find the extra cross member for the Y block the frame is already drilled for it.
only thing i found where a couple of crackc around the trans. mount. thought it would have been worse truck came from a construction company that my dad worked for 30 years ago. he tells me she was riddin hard and put away wet many a time.
so do i need to get the correct front motor mount and the trans mount for the y block v8 or just the correct front one and move the trans mount back to the correct place on the frame
