Anyone have access to Mitchell or All Data?

If you do, is there any way that you could send me the procedures for replacing the lower intake manifold gasket on a 98 chevy lumina with the 3.1 engine?
Thanks in advance.

Matt

What do you want to know, exactly? It's a pretty straightforward job. I just replaced the gaskets in my sister's 99 Monte (w/ a 3.1) and it took about 5 hours to complete without air tools.

One thing I should mention: I got a better price on gaskets at a Chevy dealer than I could get at AutoZone so, shop around. In fact, since this is a very common problem with these engines, the dealer had a complete kit assembled that included o-rings, gaskets and a tube of GM sealer.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks. I was really just looking to see if there was anything that might be mentioned in All data that isn't mentioned in the Haynes manual. I was planning to get the gaskets from the dealer simply because I've heard that they've made improvements to the gasket. I've already had theplenum off to replace fuel injectors. From what I remember, after the fuel rail is out, the manifold is pretty much staring you in the face. Was there anything else that needed to be removed for clearance to get it out? Also, if you don't mind my asking, what did the dealer charge you for the gasket kit?

Thanks.

Matt

I gave all the receipts to my sister when I completed the job so don't quote me on this. If I remember correctly the gaskets were around $40. AutoZone wanted $70 or so.

I replaced the water pump because it was leaking and the thermostat because I figured it was easier to do it while I was right there. I also replaced the two coolant hoses under the throttle body, again, because I was there. The gaskets and other parts I replaced came to about $200.

I had to remove the alt and p/s pump for clearance. I didn't disconnect the pump though. I just set it aside.

Another thing I just thought of: Make sure to keep your pushrods in order. The intake and exhaust pushrods are different in length.

If I think of anything else I'll post it.

An alldata subscription for a consumer for one car is very inexpensive, 15$/yr or something. Just buy it.
