timing cover

I am changing the timing cover on my 1968 302 . My old book says to use alignment tool for front seal on timing cover , to center the seal . Does anyone know where i can get the alignment tool ?? or any other ideas on how to center the seal .
thanks
jeff

I do not know much about 302's, but on the 429/460 front cover you center it with the crank spacer. Can you do your 302 the same?

Have you dropped the front of the oil pan? It's a little more work, but it makes the cover easier to deal with. I would install the seal in the cover. Loosely install the cover on the front of the engine with a couple of bolts not even hand tight. You want some play in the cover. Install the balancer to center the cover and torque to specs. Nows a good time to install a balancer sleeve on the hub of the balancer in case there's a groove from the old seal. This method has worked well for me in the past.

ok thanks . The reason i asked about the tool is that I dont have a balancer . I am doing a new motor and was going to reuse the old balancer . Now that I am thinking about it I will get a new balancer no point in cheaping out now .
