I have a 1993 f-350 c/c 4x4 . I am in the process of installing a banks turbo when I went to adjust fuel pump set screw is locked will not move either way. It is a navistar reman #db2-4612. There is a external screw that had a red plastic seal on it. Is there a possility that this can be the adjusting screw.
The fuel screw is internal.
Passenger side plate has two bolts, looks like a base ball home plate.
Using a light and mirror look inside for an allen screw.
You have to rotate the engine till it comes into view.
#1 cylinder at TDC should be close to the screw.
A little adjustment goes a long way, 1.5 to 2 flats on the allen wrench will be close to what you want.
Use good allen wrenches, you don't want to round out the set screw.
When you remove the plate, about a pint of fuel will come out of the pump, have rags handy.
Be carefull with the gasket so it does not get torn.
thanks for the reply. I am in to the pump but can not turn the screw. I have put quite a pull on allen wrench and can not move screw. just wondering if anyone has ran across this before. It is a reman pump not sure if they staked the screw because it will not move either way.
Why do you have a 4812 IP, that engine requires a 5013 IP. Is it the original engine if so it should be the performance and emissions engine, check the data tag on the timing cover/oil filler if 92.5 is punched out its a P&E.
thanks for the reply plc7.3
This is the fuel pump that was on the truck when I bought it. It has been replaced because it has a reman tag. Truck runs fine but I wanted to turn up the fuel because I have installed a banks turbo. But like I stated the internal screw is locked tight.I am scared to strip allen socket. What is the external screw for. It almost appears like it is a rack travel screw. I have rebuilt lots of fuel pumps on mechanical cat engines , I run a shop for a trucking company.
I tried calling a local fuel injection shop today but they were closed.
Your model may not have it, but the 5013 has a screw on the back of the IP that sits at about a 45* angle, it has a lock nut. That would be the one usually adjusted when turbos installed along with the internal screw.
thanks my pump has a screw with lock nut which had a seal on it , I will adjust that one.It will be awhile before I can let you know as I am going right through this unit. My posi showed up the other day. I have new front fenders, new tanks, removed the autolite and installed factory ford g/p. I ordered my new wheels and tires last week also. I have a donor box that needs a little work , the nice thing is my kid brother is a bodyman/ painter. I also installed a 2" body lift to make room for down pipe. I have a us gear exhaust brake to go on when I build exhaust system. This will be one sweet truck when we are done with it.
