Help! oil pickup woes

Hi all!

Here's my problem. I have a 78 4x2 that I'm in the process of putting a 351w in. The original oil pan was a double sump pan (drain screw in front and back) which I determined would hit the front crossmember. I replaced the pan w/one from a late 70's van (looked to have the same front end as my truck). pan had less of a hump in front and no front drain screw. Now the pan wont fit over the oil pick up screen. I ordered a pick up screen from a 351 late 70's van. It is way too short.
I know these trucks came with a 302 in 79. will that pick up fit? If not what the heck can I do? Engine is ready to drop except for this problem.
(I tried to go back to the wrecking yard to get the pick up off the van but it had been crushed)

Help!

I used a 77 LTD oil pan/pickup tube for the same swap. The drain plug is on the side but will clear the frame.

vans from 1975-91 used 302's and 351w. Get an oil pickup tube from one of those. You probably didn't need the rear sump pan in a pickup. They were used in the van to get the engine low and forward for better packaging in the vans.
