after reinstalling my motor i have 2 injector lines that i cannot get to seat.(onto injectors) the engine runs fine but fuel seeps out the top of the caps making the inside cab dieselly. tried unscrewwing retighting ect. nvr leaked before motor was takin out. have to buy new lines?
Are you sure it's not the plastic return fitting that's leaking? If the plastic part isn't pushed down all the way over the two o-rings (you should hear an audible "click") it will leak. That's more likely than a leaking injector olive. If it's not the return fitting then the olive inside the injector line may be deformed from overtightening and it won't seal. New lines come from Ford or IH. Check some of the online retailers for better deals. Make sure you let them know which cylinder # since all the lines are different.
just push down on the plastic pieces? then retighten and the clicking ur refering to? i hear a clicking when i turn my key on for bout 5 sec but thats it. the olive bein the flare is that right. my first diesel still tryin to make out the verbage. thanks
Loosen the injector line at the injector and lift it off the injector as best as you can. There will be a barrell shaped plastic sleeve below the top of the injector which has the return lines sticking out of it. Push down on the plastic piece until you hear a click. If you don't hear anything then try to pull it off gently and reseat it. If still no click then maybe it won't click but make sure it's pushed down all the way and reconnect the injector line. It's worth a shot.
thank u very much will give it a try. bought this truck like 2 months ago for $2000 jus seems like its always somethin this site super valuable. thanks again
If you have not changed the return line O rings in the caps, that may be the problem.
They get hard after the hot fuel goes through there for a while.
If they have been installed for 6 months or so of driving every day, then you disturb them, they always seem to start leaking. Two O rings per cap, and inspect the cross over lines between them. If they look bad replace the lines and all the O rings at once.
I did just the ones that were leaking the first time I did mine, two days later the ones on both sides of the ones I replaced were leaking.
Now when I do it , I just replace them all at once.
