Dead Hole

Have a miss in my 78 ford 460. #4 is completely dead. Checked compression on all holes highest was 147 and lowest was 134. Put air to the holes to keep the valves up while we changed the springs(we thought we had a weak one) and it held air great. We also changed plug wires around thinking it was that, it was not. Basically we are stumped. Distribitor cap looks great also. If you run it up to 2000-2500 it will bog down after a while and the lifter will start rattleing, after about 15 seconds it will smooth out and seem fine. We put it on a Snap-on scope and #4 is dead all the time no matter what. Before we started working on it if you aplied the throttle nice and easy it would belch back through the carberator once in a while, pretty sure it still will but I havent driven it for a while. ANY HELP WILL BE AWSOME.......THANKS

while you were at it did you watch to see if the valves are opening and closing on #4 you might have a flat lobe on your cam.

Pulled the cam out it was fine. Put a new cam, lifters, springs and timing chain on the other day. We found the miss a month ago and I wanted to upgrade any way and we thought it was weak springs.
