Flowmaster 40 vs 50 series

Anybody have opinions on whether a 40 or 50 series Flowmaster sounds better? Is there too much resonance in the cab with a 40 series? I'd like to run a single in-dual out setup with the 40, but I can only find kits that come with the 50.

With resonance...It depends on where the muffler is located under the truck. If its right under the cab, then there will be a lot. If its back near the axle, then there wont be much at all. What I would do, is go to some muffler shops in town and ask them how much it would be to run a SI/DO with a 40-series.

If you want cheap Flowmaster's....check out www.performance-curve.com

Ideally, what I want to do is run a Flowmaster SI/DO w/ stainless pipes. I stopped at 2 places I pass just for some quick quotes. Monro doesn't do stainless, they'd give me a Dynomax w/ aluminized steel pipes & stainless tips for $350, and Trunk 'n Stuff wants $711 for a Gibson w/ stainless pipes.

If it's not too much trouble, I might order some 2.5" stainless exhaust piping off Jegs or somewhere like that, and fab up my own.
*edit-Thanks for that site, Delta Flow is ~$15 cheaper than anywhere else I've seen.

where did you get the stainless? Cheapest I can find the muffler is $75, and I can't find the pipes for under $100

Nice truck! My '90 is the same configuration.

If you have stock cats then definitely go with the 40 series... if you have your pipes exiting out back then you should have hardly any interior resonance. Actually if you want any kind of real sound with the stock cats then I'd go with an IMCO Extreme instead... its basically a single chamber Flowmaster clone.

Ehh, can't go too loud or the old lady would get mad at me... The only leverage I actually have in this is her 4 yr old daughter heard my truck rumble when I had a mudflap hanging & said she liked it when it did that, lol.

if you still have both cats, i wouldnt run a muffler...those cats do a great job of muffling everything, its not loud at all

I gotta run a muffler. It's illegal not to have one in PA.

Maybe go with a 50 series then... don't wanna have the ol' lady hassling you about it every time you go for a stroll together. Should have a decent rumble to it.
